Bicycle touring in Spain: routes, nature & culture with Funbici.org

If you plan a cycling trip through Spain, you’ll discover a unique blend of culture, stunning nature, and thousands of kilometers of low-traffic cycling routes. Spain isn’t just an ideal destination for enjoying the sun and gastronomy. Many cycling enthusiasts committed to more environmentally friendly tourism are working to make Spain one of Europe’s most exciting countries for cycle tourism.

At Funbici.org (a social non profit NGO), we’ve spent more than a decade mapping, documenting, and promoting a way of traveling by bike that’s slow, immersive, and respectful of local ecosystems. With our interactive map CicloMaps.com, you’ll find the best cycling routes in Spain: from scenic interconnected greenways to EuroVelo itineraries, Camino de Santiago/Pilgrims adapted for bike trails, and rural circular loops that support local communities.

Why cycling Spain?
✅ Bicycle touring in Spain offers mild weather, varied landscapes, and an extensive rural network.
✅ There are miles of kilometres with low-traffic routes, traditional villages, and routes suitable for saddlebags tours.
✅ Spain is home to some of the most scenic EuroVelo routes: EuroVelo 1 (Atlantic Coast Route), EuroVelo 8 (Mediterranean Route) or EuroVelo 3 (Pilgrims Route)

Bike-friendly infrastructure
Funbici advocates for better bike-rail intermodality, providing up-to-date information on bicycle transport on RENFE (National Railways), commuter trains, and new initiatives for secure bicycle parking. It’s hard work that is slowly bearing fruit.

Looking for hotels, campsites, or bike-friendly camping areas? On our map, you can find recommended places for camping or sleeping, whether you’re traveling long distances or regional circular routes. Please let us know if you find anything we could improve; we’re open to it!

A project with purpose
More than just a map, Funbici promotes a form of tourism that is:

– Environmentally respectful
– Connected with local economies and despoblación (rural depopulation) strategies

Focused on circular bike routes to explore specific regions in depth
Whether you’re looking for a bike route along the Camino de Santiago, an adventure on the Pirinexus circuit, or exploring Spain’s Greenways, you’re likely to find useful information on our map and website.
